Shoes, what do they mean to you? Are they just a necessity that you wear to keep your feet warm and dry or are they much much more? For many the answer is yes, they are an extension of a personality, as fashion is. It shows who you are, what you believe in and how you want to be viewed by others.
For me my obsession with shoes started later in life. I was very happy in trainers for the last 20 or so years and the thought of wearing high heels was – well quite frankly a pain in the ass. However, since learning about the world of fashion it has become obvious to me that a good pair of shoes is so much more than just something to keep your feet warm a dry. A good pair of shoes can change your body shape and ultimately make an outfit. FACT.
So when the other week my friend invited me to an evening with Christian Louboutin and Paula Reed, I was so excited. To meet the man who so many is an idol, he has designed some of the most statement shoes of this century and changed every women’s wish list.
Christian was of course as I had imagined, impeccably well dressed, well spoken, well-travelled and a grafter. His story is similar to most people who have strived for the top. He worked hard, only listened to his heart, kept his head down and focused on the work. Now 20 years later, his shoes are hanging magnificently in the Design Museum and people are queuing to see them. If you have a dream work towards it and you never know where you will be in 20 years, but hopefully you will be making it wearing a pair of his shoes with those signature red soles.
